Harry Potter- Not A Review

As most of you can relate, Harry Potter, the ever intriguing piece of art penned by the fantasy maestro Jk. Rowling was one such factor that enlightened me with the wisdom of creative incarnation and inspired me to build a space for my own imagination in the fantasy world. If during the tender ages of my childhood the book led me through the mysticism of a magical world and induced enchanting characters , spells and things in my inquisitive mind, then later in my life it played the role of injecting powerful human emotions in me.

The Author creates a splendid blend of non -human elements with human emotions in the book through many characters and plots.

For instance :

1)The Harry Potter series is filled with a sea of quotes which portrays strong human feelings and social issues such as-

“WE’VE ALL GOT BOTH LIGHT AND DARK INSIDE US. WHAT MATTER IS THE PART WE CHOOSE TO ACT ON. THAT’S WHO WE REALLY ARE.”

“IT IS OUR CHOICES, HARRY THAT SHOW WHAT WE TRULY ARE FAR MORE THAN OUR ABILITIES. "

It narrates the importance of love over hatred, light over darkness and selflessness over selfish deeds. Here these quotes are prevalent in the contexts of the protagonist and the antagonist who are instilled with similar backgrounds like being devoid of family , a bitter childhood and are destined to have the same powers and abilities but they chose to act in different ways which ultimately decide their fate in the end. The protagonist Harry is a reflection of love, friendship and light as he was saved from mortal threats many times by the love of mothers . He lit the candle of selflessness by caring for other's lives more than his own and he was bound by the pillar of friendship built by Ronald and Hermione. On the other hand Lord Voldemort as stated was the Lord of darkness, selfish motives and loneliness. He never tasted the sweetness of love and friendship, the whole of his life was embodied in the darkness of narcissistic behaviour to achieve power, position and supremacy over the less powerful and marginalised sections of the magical world and he ended innocent lives only to turn immortal to be able to sustain his dark ways. As a result he lacked true friendship and most of his followers pretended to be his loyal servants either out of fear , the desire for power or because of their pure blood maniac. At the end of the story eventually the shelter of light, love and friendship made ways for Harry to conquer death and the evil ways led Lord Voldemort to the fate of death and he died in the end as a mere human by shedding all his power and pride.

2) “IT MATTERS NOT WHAT SOMEONE IS BORN, BUT WHAT THEY GROW TO BE.”

This quote teaches us the importance of our outlook towards the people around us. In the book we get to read the representation of the high-class society through the pure blood wizards such as the Malfoy family and the ill fate of the commoners and less powerful beings in the hands of the powerful. In this context , I would like to discuss some characters and families mentioned in the book .

Dobby is a non -human character who has won the sentiments of all the readers of the book. He is a reflection of the marginalised section of the society in a parallel world like the magical universe . He and his kind were taught to believe that they are slaves of their pure blood wizard masters and they should punish themselves harshly if they can't obey them under any circumstances. Through this character, the author tries to induce the idea of discrimination which is prevalent in the society.

The Weasley family despite being a pure blood class was discriminated against on the basis of their financial background and they were called the blood traitors only for the reason that they never considered any other class to be less than them and welcomed everyone whole heartedly.

Hermione was titled as one of the wisest wizards of her time still during her Hogwarts journey she fell a victim of discrimination for being a muggle born (Non-wizard Background) and was even sneered for her looks .

The story also reflects the severe issue of bullying which is again a socially relevant matter in today's times. Characters like Snape, Luna and Ron were bullied for different reasons. Snape suffered from loneliness as a result of constant bullying which ultimately made him choose the dark ways before he was enlightened with light. Luna was constantly bullied for the silly reason that she was different from the rest in her perspectives and thoughts . Ron was bullied and made to question his own abilities to meet his goals which created a sense of jealousy in him towards his best friend Harry. These characters reveal the negative impact of bullying on a person thus instilling good human qualities in the readers.

3) " I HAVE SPIED FOR YOU AND LIED FOR YOU, PUT MYSELF IN MORTAL DANGER FOR YOU. EVERYTHING WAS SUPPOSED TO BE TO KEEP LILY'S SON SAFE. NOW YOU TELLING ME YOU HAVE BEEN RAISING HIM LIKE A PIG FOR SLAUGHTER."

This quote exemplifies the magnificent variant of emotions through the character of Professor Snape who's seen taunting Harry throughout the book and at the very end turns out as the dangling  twist to the plot as he is revealed as the one who was in a constant effort to save Harry from the waves of death by sacrificing his own life for the sole reason that he was the child of his only love Lily though she loved someone else. Though his presence was destined with the dark he was a spark of light in solitude , a soul knitted with anger , anguish and wit yet proved to be the most beautiful soul in Hogwarts .

It is quoted in the story by the character Albus Dumbledore that :

“SOON WE MUST ALL FACE THE CHOICE BETWEEN WHAT IS RIGHT AND WHAT IS WRONG.”And Snape chose what was difficult as death , indeed a right thing to do at that time over easy. Thus spilling the fact that who we always consider wrong will eventually turn out to be the right one in the end and the word love has several meanings stuck to its guns.

No can ever place an epitome of such selfless love, courage and bravery as Professor Snape and I can't really tell whether I could find such a character in reality for I doubt if I can ever find someone like him even in the fantasy world but surely he has set a definition to the readers of what selflessness and true love signify.

Hence, the Harry Potter series is a fiction with non -human elements which paints a picture of human nature and the society in which we live in the young minds with a taste of fantasy. In fact the plot is a never ending wave of sea which carries life meaning that provokes our thoughts through an illusion inscribed in a capturing approach.
